Dear Competitors and Families,

Welcome to the second annual Skydancer Aerial Arts Competition in Simi Valley, California! We invite aerialists of all levels—beginners to advanced—to showcase their talents and celebrate the art of aerial performance. This year, we offer both competitive and non-competitive categories, providing the opportunity for participants to receive valuable feedback from a panel of expert judges. Whether you're here to compete or grow your skills, we encourage you to join this exciting event and take your aerial journey to new heights!



Skydancer Aerial Arts Competition: Rules, Policies, and Registration

Rules and Policies:

1. Eligibility: Open to all aerialists, from beginners to advanced levels. Participants must follow family-friendly standards for routines, music, and attire.


2. Apparatuses: Personal apparatuses are allowed but must be inspected. Silks are 20 feet, and Lyra can be adjusted up to 18 feet.

We provide in-studio apparatuses including silks, lyras, ropes, and hammocks. Feel free to ask about sizes and specifications if you use our equipment



3. Routine Time Limits:

Solo: 2-3:30 minutes

Duo: 4 minutes

Group: 5 minutes



4. Judging Criteria:

Artistry (10 points)
Judges look for musicality, presentation, and creativity in the routine. This includes how well the music complements the movements and whether the performance tells a cohesive story or expresses an idea.

Execution (10 points)
Focuses on the technical precision of movements, fluidity, control, and overall performance quality. It’s about how well the aerialist performs each trick and transition.

Difficulty (10 points)

Judges assess the complexity of tricks, including strength, balance, and skill level required. Higher points are awarded for more challenging movements and combinations.


5. Non-Competitive Category: Participants receive feedback and scores from judges 


6. Refund Policy: No refunds. 


7. Music Submission: Submit music in MP3 format by January 15, 2025.


8. Safety: Mats are required and will be provided for all performances.


9. Score Review Policy: Participants can request a score review by the head judge within 15 minutes of their performance if they disagree with their score.


Registration Process:

1. Individual Registration: .

Early Bird Fee: $150 (includes 1 entry, 1 audience ticket, t-shirt, participation medal, swag bag)

Full Registration: $199 (same benefits as early bird)

Additional Apparatus: $75 per apparatus


2. Studios can register multiple students as a group and receive a 10% commission. For every five students registered, one coach is registered for free.


3.Other Payment methods:
 Payments can be made online via Venmo, Zelle, or by check.


Awards:

All participants receive a medal, event t-shirt, and swag bag.

Trophies are awarded to the top three competitors in each category.

Non-competitive participants will receive feedback and scores. Competitive participants receive both feedback and scores, awards, eventt-shirt

For application fees, refunds are only allowed within two (2) weeks of your purchase. If you are not able to participate in any way for any reason beyond this period, you may transfer the payment to another participant. Alternatively, we can apply your payment to the following year, with fees and administrative costs deducted. To request a refund of your application fee, please notify us in writing via email.

More Information about the competitor



  • Competitive category will receive a score from judges, feedback after the competitions, and will be placed and awarded.

  • The non-compete category is for participants who will run their routines and get feedback from judges. No awards or any special prizes apply to this category

  • A compulsory routine is a pre-choreographed sequence of movements designed to assess foundational technique, control, and performance quality. It ensures a fair and consistent way to evaluate beginner-level participants across the same skill set.

    For Skydancer 2025, compulsory routines will be provided for:

    Aerial Silks (Beginner Level):
    A short routine featuring basic climbs, foot locks, poses, and simple transitions that demonstrate strength, control, and clean technique.
    Lyra (Beginner Level):
    A sequence of classic mounts, holds, and transitions in and around the hoop to highlight form, balance, and fluidity.
    Hammock (Beginner Level):
    A flow of basic wraps, supported inversions, and expressive shapes showcasing comfort in the fabric and awareness of movement with music.
    These routines are for beginner competitive categories only and will be released via instructional video by September 1, 2024, giving participants ample time to learn and practice.

  • For aerialists who trained less than 12 months

  • For aerialists who trained less than 2 years

  • For aerialists who trained 3-4 years, or already had experience in competing outside of the studio

  • For aerialists who have trained for 4+ years, or already had experience in competing outside of the studio

  • designed for the beginners and features pre-choreographed routines (SILK,LYRA or HAMMOCK)
